The eighteen sport World University Games commence in Germany today.  James Connel represents GB in tennis in all three events. His partners are Rahul Dhokia and Grace Piper. Toby Samuel is also competing in singles

A decisive win against a higher ranked player takes Toby in to the quarter finals.

MS 3rd Round: James Connel WR 1376 def Coleman Wong (HGK) WR174 0-6, 7-6, 7-6

This is a quite spectacular win. Coleman Wong is the top seed in the event. In the Miami Open this year, as a wild card, he beat Ben Shelton in 3 sets.

 That is a really good win, well done James!

Are James and Toby both in the last 8 now? I wasnt sure if there was a draw link, will they avoid each other if they continue to progress?

James and Toby in separate halves. I see Eliz Maloney is also at the last 8 stage, and her and Esther Adeshina in womens doubles still and Grace Piper and James Connel in mixed.

So with Jamie's win yesterday the British players have beaten the top 2 seeds

QF Jamie Connel WR 1376 def Ammar Elamin 7-6, 6-2

out of interest- how does the Seeding work, if Friend of Japan is ranked above the Brits but unseeded ?
