It was a 32 pair mixed doubles draw here last year, which I would have thought was the norm for Slam mixed doubles.

I think 5 pairs is more than usual, but shouldn't be a surprise with so many top ranked men. I do think 8 wild cards in a draw of 32 is ridiculous, even if local fans will want to see French pairs.
