Rusedski in French Open doubles

Greg's French Open isn't over yet, he's made the surprising decision to play doubles here. I'm amazed, the last time he played GS doubles must be at least a decade ago !
I would have thought he'd be rushing back to GB and getting on the grass as quickly as poss. Looks like he's not going to play Surbiton then this year.

He's partnering Tomas Zib of the Czech Republic. Zib has a singles ranking of 109 and a doubles ranking of 74. Like Greg, he's a veteran at 30 and he lost in rd1 this year to Robredo.

They play Slovaks Mertinak and Hrbaty in rd1 today. This is really tough as they were the driving force in Slovakia's DC run last year. Mertinak is ranked 38 in doubles, he reached Wimbledon quarters in doubles last year and has since won several challengers and ATPs.

If Greg and Zib win they are likely to play 3rd seeds, Knowles and Nestor in rd2.

According to the schedule on the web site. Rusedski's doubles match has been moved to court 14 where Murray and Auckland just won. Perhaps its an omen.

No sign of them on the scoreboard yet though. If they win, Greg gets tom play his old mucker Daniel Nestor in R2.

As I suspected........ 6-1 1-0 to Hrbaty Mertinak and counting.

I really wonder what the point of this was. Its not as if he needs the prize money!

3-1 up though in set 2 !!

Maybe there is hope yet

I do agree though, I have no idea what made Greg suddenly decide to play doubles
