Harriet is having a bad run at the moment having lost her last 6 her matches in a row.
Although born in England but opting to play for Chinese Taipei Joanna Garland is in qualifying. She is ranked in the top 200 but has a difficult task playing Naef of Switzerland who qualified for Wimbledon in 2023.
I think my brain may be having difficulties here - I see Karen Cross is in the draw and now playing for Canada, and also that Judy Garland has entered - I thought the Sound of Music was ages ago and hadn't realised she had taken up tennis since then.
Can someone please call the nurse for me. I think I am in need of medication (urgently).
Despite growing up close to Harriets stomping ground in Enfield, and therefore always having looked out for her matches, Im still struggling with her unfortunate and, frankly, offensive comments directed towards her French opponent a few weeks back. And the subsequent drip drip of things dredged up from her past suggesting that shes had tension with various other GB players over the years for on/off court comments/antics. I had no idea. I wish all the British players the best of luck in Paris - but I do have some relief that Fran is in Harriets section of the qualifying draw - and that she is by far the better player on clay, so if Fran qualifies its sort of guilt free.
It is fair to say that a clay court is not one of Darts happier hunting grounds. She has yet to win a main draw match on the surface this year and, indeed, has never won a main draw match at Roland Garros. And she has been trying for the past five years. No matter: a new day, a new challenge. And Sobolieva could present a real challenge. She has been hard at work on the second tier of professional events and won the Santa Margherita di Pula 2 in Italy last month."
