I have no real problem with bad language on courts

But Mr Crawford might want to be aware that there's a mike on his court - and ALL I can hear is him using the 'f' word as though it's going out of fashion - every third word

Maybe cool it a bit, Oliver?

It seems that Mr Crawford's foul-mouthed behaviour failed to pay off:

Final:  (4) Daniel Mérida (ESP) WR 329 defeated (2) Oliver Crawford WR 295 by 4-6 6-2 7-6(5)

Yes, just saw the last few games and see what you mean, CD. Ridiculously frequent use. Mérida was getting quite excited but I don'r know what he was yelling.

Yes, it's a fair point that English speaking players get rather unfairly penalised because we all understand their language

I don't know if you remember but that was the story about my son (and others) learning to umpire in France at Les Petits As and actually being officially 'taught' the worst 10 swear words in each European language, so as to umpire fairly hmmbiggrinno

And then being coached with great vigour by the players from those countries in the evening, to perfect their accents and get the right emphasis biggrin

I once also saw a match at Wimbly qualis with Marc Giquel (a feisty soul, himself) playing a Serbian guy (I seem to remember) and at one particulalry feisty moment, the Serbian let rip, shouting at the top of his voice a list of what were most definitely expletives. Marc complained to the umpire, saying he should be given a foul language warning. The umpire basically said he didn't understand Serbian. Marc stood his ground, saying anyone in their right mind could see what the guy was saying. (And he was right)

Marc didn't win the argument - but he managed to drag it out 10 mins - and then went on to win the match
