Hopefully Evo will show some sparkling form in this match

Ha ha, hope you're right JonH!  The match before Dan's has just started so we have have long to wait. It seems to be a nice morning in Naples.

Evo did ok on clay a few years back, was it Barcelona he did well in one year, Monte Carlo? Cant remember (obviously Barca is where he was banned also!).

But I wonder (hope) that maybe slower conditions on clay will suit him, less power to overwhelm him when he is clearly struggling to keep pace with many of his opponents?

Fingers crossed!

Dan goes an early break down, 3-1.  I was pleased to have a reason to stop doing various DIY projects, but perhaps I should have kepts the scrwewdriver in my hand...

I think Monte Carlo is unusually fast for clay. I remember Tiger Tim doing really well then one year, he may even have won the dubs.  Who remembers who his partner was? I'm sure someone here does.

Dan has won the break back, we are on serve

Its not definitive, but the tennis abstract surface speed ratings actually place Monte Carlo as one of the slower clay surfaces!

Tim won MC doubles twice - 1999 with Delaitre and 2004 with Zimonjic

Doubles: 2 (20)
Result Year Tournament Surface Partner Opponents Score
Win 1999 Monte-Carlo Masters Clay France Olivier Delaître Czech Republic Jií Novák
Czech Republic David Rikl 62, 63
Win 2004 Monte-Carlo Masters Clay Serbia and Montenegro Nenad Zimonji Argentina Gastón Etlis
Argentina Martín Rodríguez 75, 62

And Tim reached the singles semis in 2002. And had a good record at MC, as you say (two times QF's as well in singles)

Jon H, you are a tennis nerd!

Dan hasn't lost the first setr yet, but I'm sure he will. This is not a great quality match, neither player deserves a place in the top 100.

haha - being frank, it was a wikipedia search that got me all the info! Just knowing where to go, sadly not something I remembered!
