Hopefully Maia and partner will play to their level (I'm not going to say any more than that)

The cut-off was CR182. Emily A and Nuria Parrizas Dias are first alts at CR185. You can see from the rankings above that there are a lot of entries based on singles ranking.

182 is a relatively high cut-off: an average around 90. Think it's normally around 160.

How do Julia and Tara qualify for this?

They are both entered on Special Rankings - Tara is 88 and Julia is 73 giving them a combined ranking of 161 and were 52nd on the entry list.

The rankings I quoted for the matches are from the WTA website and are official doubles rankings

Thank you TA. I fear that Tara's recent dubs form is far from that of a Top 100 player!

True ! And remember that entry rankings for doubles are the better of singles and doubles - which is one reason you get top singles players in these draws.

That's a shame .. I'd thought Jodie and Clara under-ranked and in with a chance, but it was not to be

Well, you were right. They were in with a chance. A very big chance. And they nearly took it. Shame....

Maia serving at 4-1 got to deuce with the help of 2 DFs. On the 9th BP with another DF she was finally broken.

She served out for 6-4 despite another DF in that game

Some nice rallies - all four playing decent stuff
