Week 1 - ATP 250 - Bank of China Open - Hong Kong, SARC (hard)

L32:  Cameron Norrie WR 49 (CH = 8 in September 2022) vs Learner Tien (USA) WR 122 (CH = 114 last month)

Tien's a rising star.  Unless Cam starts in a better frame of mind than he was in for most of this year, I fear he'll lose this one.  hmm

Double trouble, so to speak, for Cam:

L16:  (WC) Zizou Bergs & Learner Tien (BEL/USA) CR 2302 (860+1442) vs Luciano Darderi (ITA) & Cameron Norrie UNR (217+0 [but a CH of 117 in June 2022])

L16:  Sander Arends (NED) & Luke Johnson CR 115 (57+58) vs (2) Adam Pavlasek & Jean-Julien Rojer (CZE/NED) CR 75 (29+46)  cry

Maybe not so much trouble in the doubles, if Tien is a Lerner

That said, Aidan McHugh beat him in November and Jay Clarke took him to 3 sets. He did well at NextGen Finals, and will be a challenge, but Cam showed signs at back end of year to suggest hes getting back a little bit of form.

Delighted that my fears proved groundless for once:

L32:  Cameron Norrie WR 49 defeated Learner Tien (USA) WR 122 by 3 & 5  smile

*****

L16:  Cameron Norrie WR 49 vs Lorenzo Sonego (ITA) WR 53 (CH = 21 in October 2021)

Sonego beat Nakashima, the sixth seed, in straight sets...

Fortunately I believe it's quite a lot more than once

Well done, Cam.

I'm a born pessimist, Indy, the polar opposite of Jon.  wink  Experience over the years had taught me that it's far less painful to expect the worst & be proved wrong/pleasantly surprised than it is to assume that everything's a foregone conclusion because of rankings or whatever.  I've never been a betting woman & I take nowt for granted.

Yes, but assuming the worst each and every time leaves no room for discernment It's the easy way out.

In life generally, I find expecting the worst and being presently surprised makes me happy -as Stircrazy says above. So pessimists can be happy people!
