The NCAA Div 1 Individual Singles and Doubles Championships start on Tuesday, having been moved from May in a 2 year pilot. This year they are being held at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
Qualification for the Championships was through 4 tournaments that have taken place since the end of September. From these there were 4 GB men and 2 women who qualified for singles, and 7 men and 5 women who qualified for doubles.
Mens singles: Lui Maxted (TCU) [6], Oli Tarvet (San Diego) [7], Jamie Connel (Florida State), Roan Jones (Alabama)
Mens doubles: Oli Tarvet (San Diego) [1], Luca Pow (Wake Forest) [4], Lui Maxted (TCU) [5-8], Henry Jefferson (Florida), Billy Blaydes & Will Nolan (Auburn), Will Jansen (Ohio State)
Womens singles: Sofia Johnson (Old Dominion) [9-16], Grace Piper (Southern California)
Womens doubles: Grace Piper (Southern California), Lily Hutchings (Tulsa), Alicia Dudeney (Florida), Given Roach (Georgia Tech), Savannah Dada-Mascoll (Appalachian State)
Seedings are based on unpublished rankings which take into account the best 5 wins and all losses during the fall season. Unlike recent seasons, being seeded doesn't award them All-American honours. They will need to reach the R16 (singles) or QF (doubles) to be an All-American, although Oli Tarvet already is an All-American for this season by virtue of winning the All-American singles and doubles championships in September.
The brackets have been published tonight I've grouped these into their quarters
Mens Singles R64: Roan Jones (UA) v Carl Emil Overbeck (Cal) [4]
R64: Oli Tarvet (USD) [7] v Radu Papoe (Cornell) Miyoshi (Aidan's and PJ's conqueror this week) or Loutit await in the next round if he gets through
R64: Lui Maxted (TCU) [6] v Tiago Silva (Pacific) R64: Jamie Connel (FSU) v Niccolo Baroni (Mississippi State)
Womens singles: A withdrawal moves Sofia up to 8th seed R64: Sofia Johnson (ODU) [8] v Esha Velaga (Penn) Should she get through, could meet DJ Bennett (defeat Gabia a couple of weeks ago) in next round
R64: Grace Piper (USC) v Lucie Petruzelova (Ole Miss)
Mens doubles: R32: Oli Tarvet & Stian Klaassen (USD) [1] v Eric Verdes/Rushil Kholsa (Cornell) R32: Billy Blaydes & Will Nolan (AUB) v Nicholas Godsick/Samir Banerjee (Stanford)
R32: Luca Pow & Luciano Tacchi (WFU) [4] v Arthus de la Bassetiere/Kabeer Kapasi (Rice)
R32: Lui Maxted & Pedro Vives (TCU) [5-8] v Dhakshineswar Suresh/Ioannis Xilas (Wake Forest)
R32: Will Jansen & Bryce Nakashima (OSU) v Patrick Schoen/Logan Zapp (North Carolina) R32: Henry Jefferson & Tanapatt Nirundorn (UF) v Cooper Williams/Theo Winegar (Duke) [5-8] Winners meet in next round
Womens doubles: R32: Alicia Dudeney & Rachel Gailis (UF) v Lily Jones/Jessica Bernales (Michigan) Winners potentially play the #1 seed in next round R32: Grace Piper & Lily Fairclough (USC) v Liubov Kostenko/Cristina Tiglea (Baylor) [5-8]
R32: Given Roach & Alejandra Cruz (GT) v Jade Otway/Isabel Pascual (TCU) [5-8] R32: Savannah Dada-Mascoll & Isabella Romanichen (APPST) v Ava Hrastar/DJ Bennett (Auburn)
R32: Lily Hutchings & Maria Berlanga (TU) v Gabriella Broadfoot/Maddy Zampardo (NC State) [2]
Tough draw for Roan. In the unlikely event he gets past the in-form Overbeck, he potentially faces unseeded pre-season #1 Baris in the next round. Oli has some difficult matches early on and will need to be on top form to avoid an early exit. Lui has been on top form and will be expected to get past Silva Not sure about Jamie.
Know nothing about Sofia's R1 opponent. Grace's opponent was defeated by Sofia in a recent W35 qualifier. Grace should be able to win but she is a little unpredictable.
Expect plenty of wins in men's doubles, but women's doubles have been dealt a tricky draw.
Full draws are available here or alternatively here

1. To define the fall and spring seasons more clearly: the fall season being individual play cumulating in an individual championships and the spring season being team play ending with the team championships. Additionally, the fall season means very little to most colleges and this is, in part, an attempt to make it matter. 2. To enhance the student-athlete experience and wellbeing: to protect players from having to play for 9 straight days in both the team and individual championships at the end of the season and remove the experience of having to wait weeks for individual play without team support if not qualified for the team championships.
It would be wonderful if we could see how it goes, but as per usual NCAA think everyone lives in the US and can subscribe to ESPN+. Doesn't seem like a good way to promote college tennis internationally which is what the ITA are always claiming they want to do. This is going to become a rant every NCAA championships. Shame as I wanted to watch Oli's match later, which is I'd say the toughest of the men's 1st round matches. Pre-season No 3 v Pre-season No 6.
There isn't an order of play as such. The times for matches are on the draws. Link to live scores are in either the links above.
And I am currently watching 10 mins of Roan Jones - and have at least learned how to pronounce his name - I always wondered if it were 'roan' like a colour of a pony but seemingly it's basically 'rowan'
