Just saw that - if Melichar and Perez arent injured, thats an impressive turn around.

Not to be for Liv + either. A day of near misses in womens doubles

Quite a tense MTB, with 3DF and second serves being punished on both sides. On to Japan ........

Katie's match suspended at 2-2. They had the floodlights on at around 3pm local time (on the adjacent court, anyway)

Can anyone please explain why they have moved the number 6 seed into the number one seed's position. I thought if a seed withdrew after the draw they normally promoted the next highest ranked player to a number 9 seed and put them in the blank spot. Sometimes I think I've even seen a LL moved to this slot. But it seems a bit random moving another seed.

Who replaces a withdrawn seed depends on whether all, some or no seeds have a bye, whether the first day's order of play has been released and whether play has started. In a draw where only some seeds have a bye and before play has started, if a seed that has a bye withdraws then the highest seed not to have a bye takes their place. If play has started then it should be a lucky loser.

Good to see Katie get a win - if she can beat Haddad Maia after beating Errani, it will feel like she is a player on a mission to beat those with a past history, if you get my drift!

Indeed. Navarro was replaced by Kasatkina [5] and then Paolini by Haddad Maia [6]. I'm not sure if Katie has benefitted by the change - any of those seeds would make a tough opponent.
