British no 1 and no 2 juniors Graeme Dyce and David Rice travelled to Milan for this clay court tournament, in preparation for next week's French Open juniors qualifying.
As it's a grade 1 event, only players in the top 40 juniors get in directly so Dyce and Rice had to go through the qualies:
Qualifying:
Rd1: D Rice [GB] bt E Poli [It] [unranked in juniors] 6-2, 6-3
G Dyce [GB] [13] bt A Bega [It] 6-4, 7-5 Bega is 14 and doesn't have a junior ranking.
Rd2: M Klizan [Svk][1] bt D Rice [GB] 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 A good performance from David against the number 1 seed. He did well to take a set off Klizan as the Slovak is ranked 42 in juniors and is one of the best 16 year olds in the world.
G Bonardi [It] bt G Dyce [GB] [13] 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. Graeme has been struggling on the Italian clay and his run of bad form continues. His opponent was 17 but unranked in juniors so this was a match Graeme should have won.
