That selection caught me off guard but then it's been a ruddy long time since GB duty and Cam struggles continue. Cam had a torrid time of it last year as his form started to dip playing as no.1

Great to see Billy being rewarded with this selection. Patten I know nothing of him, research required on my part.

 Patten won Wimbledon for starters.

I wonder why Salisbury is out.

Nope, but no suggestion Salisbury injured.

If all fit and well, to me it was 2 from 3 and a judgement call. As I said in another thread I didn't particularly see it as a shock.

Let's not forget that nominations are 2 months before so more likely to change. But is interesting in that Patten and Skupski have never played together.

Here are the final list of nominations across all groups

www.daviscup.com/en/draws-results/finals/2024.aspx

Britain play

Wed - Finland - Virtanen, Vasa, Kaukovalta, Heliovaara, Niklas-Salminen

Fri - Argentina - Baez, F. Cernudolo, Etcheverry. Molteni, Gonzalez

Sun - Canada - Auger-Aliassime, Shapovalov, Diallo, Galarneau, Pospisil (Raonic withdrew)

Britain could risk Jack not playing against the Finns, with Billy at number one versus Virtanen and Dan at number 2 (based on rankings) - one of those and a doubles win?

Stu Fraser seems to think along those lines.

Couple of interesting paragraphs:

So gruelling was Draper's semi-final defeat by Jannik Sinner, the world No 1 from Italy, on Friday that it would have been understandable had he passed on the opportunity to represent Great Britain next week. Frankly it is the fault of the various governing bodies in tennis that the schedule ludicrously asks players to represent their countries in a prestigious international team competition immediately after a grand-slam tournament.

.....

Draper also may wish to consult a sports psychologist to better handle the mental challenges that come with such an occasion. Describing himself as "quite an anxious human being", he acknowledged that his emotions, along with the humidity, were a cause for his three bouts of vomiting on the court. With some gentle advice on this front, he should be better equipped for future appearances in the latter stages of major tournaments.

Steve Peters anyone?

Quote from Leon in an article by Stu Fraser on Mika's title triumph in the girls' singles:

"We will just have to see how he recovers and how he feels," Leon Smith, the British captain, said. "Obviously we would be absolutely delighted if he is here and ready to go. He is the strongest singles player on the team and a top-20 player in great form. He is someone who loves the competition and was absolutely brilliant when he came into the team last year. We would love to have him here, but at the same time, you have to respect what has just happened. He comes in here high on confidence but he is going to be feeling the effects of a tough summer as well. Level-wise, he can go out and compete against absolutely anyone in world tennis now."

Leon and Dan just been on breakfast BBC in a Davis Cup feature.

Narrative felt to me like Jack may step out the opening match with Finland. But we clearly wont find out until the morning.

In terms of the action, it starts today - anyone know if the BBC are showing play from each day of play eg today for Argentina and Canada ?
