Donald Young (remember him) is playing mixed with Taylor Townsend. He hasn't played since 2023 and assumed he had retired. Surely Taylor could find a better partner in order to be competitive.

She could but this is personal. She's playing with Young because it is his retirement event. They are close friends from childhood and Donald's father coached Taylor from a young age. He took her to his father's tennis camp. Their parents were friends from before they were born so she's known him her whole life. It means a lot personally to her to be able to play his last professional match with him.

 Thanks for the background. That's really lovely. I knew it had to be personal but hadn't appreciated how strong thr connection was.
