Always a biggish seed awaiting in round 3 - getting there is good in itself!
I am sure Jack has ambitions beyond R3 and would prefer that seed not to be Alcaraz.
Im sure but Jack could beat Alcaraz, I reckon. Unlikely, obviously, but hard is Alcaraz weakest surface and possibly Jacks best. Anyway, lots to play for until we get to that stage
Jan broken twice and outclassed in the first set. He made much more of a fist of it in set two (7 unforced errors compared to 18 in the opener) but Carballés did what the top players tend to do and won the points that mattered to take it with just the one break this time. Temperatures were up into the 80's by then and the Spaniard appeared to be coping with that better than Jan was.
The match only looked to be going one way when Carballés broke early in set three which made it all the more surprising when Jan broke back twice and took the set 7-5.
Watching this match I get why Jan has inconsistent results. Very tall guy but for his height not an amazing serve. His ground shots he goes for it but you are never sure if they are going to go in.
