Xunta de Galicia trophy

These results are a little out-of-date but I wondered how Britain's junior players had been doing in the last couple of weeks.

Daniel Evans has been improving his position in the Sunday Telegraph U18 grand prix.

However, Daniel Cox has improved his junior ranking to 422 with a stunning victory in the prestigious Xunta de Galicia trophy in Spain against players aged 2-3 years older

Daniel wasn't ranked high enough to get into the main draw so he had to qualify:

Qrd1: bt R Lee [GB] 6-1, 6-0
Qrd2: bt L Garcia [Esp] 6-1, 6-0
Qrd3L bt J Garcia 6-1, 6-7, 6-4

Having qualified with ease he blasted his way to the title against a quality field:

Rd1: bt W Baptiste [RSA] 6-0, 6-2 [Baptiste is ranked 360 in juniors and is 16 but proved no problem for Daniel]

QF: bt R Devos [Bel] 6-1, 6-1 [Devos is 14 and was also a qualifier]

SF: bt S Patino [Esp] 6-1, 6-3 [Patino is 14 and was a wildcard but he'd knocked out one of the seeds]

Final: bt J Andersen [RSA] 6-3, 6-2 [The most impressive victory of the lot. Andersen is nearly 18 and is ranked 156 in the world in juniors, but Daniel simply outclassed him !!!]

I really hope that Daniel gets his chance in the Wimbledon juniors this year via a wildcard. It'll be fantastic experience for him, he's got a chance of causing some real upsets and last but not least we might see him on TV live !!!

Another junior update:

Graeme Dyce [who will be in qualifying for RG juniors in a week's time] made his return to tournament action a couple of weeks ago after spending 3 months training. Dyce hasn't been successful so far.

2 weeks ago he played the 14th Citta Di Prato junior tournament on clay in Italya grade 2 event. Grame faced Italy's Damiano Di Ienno in rd1 [jr:444], Graeme got off to a flier winning set 1, 6-1. However, he lost a tight 2nd set 7-5 and Ienno took the 3rd 6-2 to win.

Last week, Graeme lost in rd1 of a Grade 1 junior tournament in Italy, again on clay. He was beaten 6-1, 6-3 by unranked Italian Antonio Di Gaetano.

Hope Graeme is just adjusting to tournament play after being in training for so long !!!
