Hmm the clay season is unlikely to be great for her, so some clay 250s would've been good options

Applies at the entry deadline which is 4 weeks before for main draw, 3 weeks before for qualifying

I agree. There were obvious reasons but, though Giorgi was very good, Katie was really quite poor.

The second set wasn't really very competitive.

Thing is she's going to need to get used to playing regularly at this level. Not just in terms of the level of performance but also in the level of fitness she will need to maintain.

Having said that she won't meet too many players as "on it" as Georgi was yesterday and there will continue to be some fairly "easy" 500s as we go through the season where there will be good opportunities for players of her ranking to pick up points.

She's no points to defend until the grass court season really so there's every chance her ranking will continue to climb. She's been playing great tennis for a few weeks now and one off day isn't going to derail her progress.

Txs Lambda. Going to be interesting to see how the rankings pan out by the end of the year. Have a feeling there's going to be quite a bit of flip flopping as people break into the Top 30 and then find themselves struggling to pick up regular wins.

Win for Emma, 2 and 3. Some feedback it wasnt to pretty but looked ok on paper. Someone watching the match may be able to give some detail. Bound to be rusty after break.

Emma was patchy as was her opponent, who was more error strewn.
I don't think the slow courts help as Emma struggled to hit winners

Emma was lucky. Her serve was a horror. Her opponent made more UEs than she did. She made some wonderful shots.

Hopefully with more match practice her service rhythm and general tennis skills will return.

I heard on commentary from Tim Henman that apparently she has been tweaking the serve with her coach Cavaday so this may explain the high double fault count and problems with serve. I watched the match and thought she played well in some parts despite lots of errors but this is experience is what she needs. And the important thing is she got through.

Apart from the run at the Australian Open in January ,Yastremska has done nothing on the main WTA tour since reaching the final of Lyon in February 2022.
