Mike Dickson

Some terrible news. Mike Dickson, daily mail tennis correspondent, has passed away while working at the Australian Open.

posted on his Twitter account:

We are devastated to announce that our wonderful husband and Dad, Mike, has collapsed and died while in Melbourne for the Aus Open. For 38 years he lived his dream covering sport all over the world. He was a truly great man and we will miss him terribly. Lucy, Sam, Ruby and Joe.

Horrific news from Melbourne.

Mike Dickson has collapsed and died while in Aus to report on the AO.  I had the pleasure of meeting him once in Madrid, and we had chat about DC. Seemed like a really genuine tennis lover as well as a tennis journalist.  Such a sad loss.

This has been posted via his Twitter account by his family.

My sincerest condolences to them all.

Edit

Madadman has posted the same.  Cogs - Feel free to merge the threads.

probably of all the tennis journalists for newspapers, he was my favourite - despite the paper he wrote for. He was always balanced, wrote good articles, seemed to have great insight and, as Bob says, genuinely loved tennis as a sport.

Big loss and condolences to his family, friends and colleagues

Oh, that's really sad

A very sensible, well-informed tennis journalist

I'll miss him

Condolences to his loved ones

Awful news.

His writing was always well-informed and insightful (enough to overcome my otherwise complete avoidance of that newspaper) and we'll all miss his journalism.

From the tributes I've just read, he will also clearly be missed personally by many people. Condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

The loss to his family and friends is enormous, my condolences.

As a punter he was one of the few journos that made me check into the Daily Mail for updates.

He'll be sadly missed by many readers.

Very sad news. RIP Mike.

I suppose if there's any scant consolation, at least it would have been a quick passing whilst doing what he loved most.

Such sad news. He was one journalist you could rely on for interesting and factually correct stories. Cant imagine the shock for his family and friends but sending condolences to all.

59 is no age at all. I presume he had a heart attack, although I dont think it has been stated. As someone of a similar age, it brings home how fragile we are.

Yes. 59 is no age. When all these people start dropping dead with fewer years than I (or should that be me?), I m not sure whether to be worried that I'm next or proud that I have survived.

That is moving, everyone bar none says what a lovely guy he was.

Simon Briggs wrote a similar personal piece in the Telegraph which gets lots of comments but I cant access as I dont pay for the Telegraph.

Anyone have a paywall free link to that as I would welcome reading it?

Thanks
