It is. Not entirely sure what the cut-off is. Mid 30s I think. Though bear in mind the top 30 are required to play a 500 or sit the week out. They don't have a choice to play elsewhere any more.

Thanks. Please keep updating us (me!) on the rule changes - I do always read them first time round - and then tend to forget. Dont worry about repetition
Tx, appreciate it !

Thats interesting. So they cant go and play an exhibition if they dont want to xompete Lambda? So Eastbourne is a WTA500 then there maybe more top 30 players this year or have I misunderstood ?

That would sound right? The only other womens player at the Kooyong next week as well as Emma is Mirra Andreeva - so both outside that top 30
I'm not sure what the rules are on playing exhibitions instead. As the What's Transparency Anyone? (WTA) haven't published the 2024 rulebook yet we've only got the headline changes they announced last year to go on. They are certainly not allowed to play down in weeks of a 500 anymore unless they use one of their 2 exceptions per year. (An exception can be used in a 250 if they are the defending title holder, 1 player from the home country and I think there is 1 available for any other top 30 player.) Like 250s, it may be they're allowed a week or two to excuse themselves from a 500 to play an exhibition. But as the intention of the new rules is to get the top 30 to play each other regularly to create rivalries, I suspect they'll be limited on what they can do if they didn't want to play the 500.

So Emma is playing Andreeva next week?
Well - the Kooyong website shows a player list with maybe 12 men and just two women. There maybe more women to be announced and there is no match schedule or draw yet

Last year there were 3 women, Vekic, Birrell and L Fruhvirtova playing a round robin with 1 women's match each day although Harriet played instead of Birrell on the last day. So if the format follows last year, Emma will play Andreeva and there should be another woman added. Perhaps someone that loses in Adelaide qualies.

Youd imagine thered be an Aussie in the field, perhaps?

According to the WTA Sam Murray Sharan is in the draw against Eikeri too.
Both Alternates. Eikeri replaces Kostyuk who has presumably moved to the main draw and Sam replaces Siegemund who is still participating in the United Cup.
