A quick summary of historic PoM winners (including ties)

6 titles - Fran Jones

4 titles - Cam Norrie, Dan Evans, Emma Raducanu

3 titles - Sonay Kartal, Hannah Klugman

2 titles - Katie Swan, Billy Harris, Joe Salisbury, Katie Boulter

Ella takes her first; Fran, though, really is the tear away champion of player of the month and, it should be said, has had quite a few months of injury through the 4 1/2 years weve been running it as well.

Kudos.

Fran has won or shared 1 out of 6 of all PoM votes weve had. Thats amazing really.

The women are dominating this season for sure. Im not clear yet whether it reflects the fact more people on the board follow the womens game than the mens, my instinct is that is a large part of it. It may reflect the women generally doing better as well, possibly also true for this season.

Ive wondered about the value of maybe splitting men and women in future seasons; but then you get splitting singles and doubles, or senior and junior players, and that would make it all very messy and make it hard work for the organiser.

The ethos of this Pom process was to put all players in together and, certainly whilst I am running it, we will keep it that way.

Which takes me to my monthly request. I am looking to only run this Pom and player of the season process through the end of this year and the POS vote which will be in January. So 7 months more of Pom votes and a Pos vote to go.

But I would hate to see it die at that point and so am still looking for someone before the end of the year to volunteer to take it on. Contact me privately if you wish- and no commitment needed, maybe just an expression of interest at this stage? Lets see who comes forward, maybe we can have a vote to choose a new Pom meister!

Seriously, it would be great if someone can take it on in 7 months time or so, let me know if that might be you?

As some know, I like to keep track of how the votes go - 42 this month was a big improvement on past May votes and the trend for Jan to May each year looks like this:

Average Votes Change
2020 25.0
2021 27.4 9.60%
2022 36.2 32.12%
2023 40.6 12.15%
2024 48.2 18.72%

To be tracking a near 20% increase on last season is great and averaging almost 50 votes for the 2024 year is impressive. In past years, my ambition was to hit 40 votes in a month, nowadays 50 is something I would love to see quite often and, indeed, with a high of 59, it would be great to hit 60 and beyond at some point

Remember, with it being a grand slam event this fortnight, any player winning a slam or Olympic/Paralympic title will get an automatic entry to player of the season.

We have 14 players already in player of the season at around halfway through the counting season. Alfie Hewett/Gordon Reid and Andy Lapthorne won doubles titles in mens wheelchar and quad wheelchair events at the AO and secured their berths.

We still have interest in all three senior doubles disciplines in the FO, all 4 junior events are yet to start and all 6 wheelchair events - despite the singles washout, still plenty to cheer about and look forwards to in the FO.

Down the line, Wimbledon, Olympics and Paralympics, and the US Open (sans wheelchair events) will provide further opportunities for our British players to achieve a title that gets them the golden ticket!

And an update on the PoM voting over the years

Average Votes Change
2020 25.0
2021 28.0 12%
2022 36.2 29.17%
2023 40.2 11.06%

2024 47.0 17.01%

41 votes this month compares to 42 last month; I had hoped we would get more but it is close enough! The year on year increase is still solid (we had 38 votes last June PoM) and we are still averaging high 40's

Finally, to say I am still looking for a volunteer to take this on from 2025. We have 6 months left in the year and a PoS first, but anyone interested, please private message me. It would be a shame to let it wither away
