So here we are. The first of three rounds of votes to whittle our field down to one player of the season for 2023.
28 players, 14 women and 14 men, form 4 groups of 7. All the groups are evenly spread as far as possible and should be even in terms of type and level of player.
From the 7, the top 3 will proceed to the semifinals, 12 in total across the groups. IF there is a tie for being in the top 3, the tied players (however many) will be put into a subsequent rapid tie break vote to take place after this vote closes.
This vote will run through to SATURDAY 1005PM ( I have realised I am out Saturday night, haha).
The list of players is below in this Group is below - vote for one who you believe is the player of the season from the group, and please give a reason and tell us who you vote for, it helps draw attention to the voting process and is more interesting:

US Open, Australian Open, NEC Wheelchair Masters, French Open Doubles, Australian Open Doubles, Wimbledon Doubles, NEC Masters Doubles - 17 titles in total
Marni - great end to the year and a big rankings jump, just a little too late!
Katie - fell in the rankings, and a less than 50 percent win loss; she got June PoM RU to get in but injuries just did for her year, I guess
Amelia - would love to vote for her, did great things in college tennis, just not enough visibility for me for her to get it this year
Cam - again, didnt reach the heights and had a poor year end; the ATP title in Rio got him Feb PoM and it looked promising but it never delivered!
my three included:
Henry - winning Wimbledon Juniors! Who wins Wimbledon and doesnt get the vote; well I am afraid Henry came into a group with another Wimbledon champion
Joe - another Wimbledon champion winning the doubles and the ATP Tour Finals. No one wins Wimbledon and the Tour finals and doesnt get the vote...
Well, then there is Alfie - he won two slam titles in Oz and US, won 3 slam doubles titles and won Wimbledon doubles in doing so and he won the Tour finals in singles and doubles. He reached #1 in the World for year end and just trumped the lot. He also won the public profile stakes and got to play peak time on Court One twice over the Wimbledon event and on Arthur Ashe as well. Alfie gets my vote
Good to see Marni show such capability when fit and 'on'. And kudos to Alfie for ruling the roost in the wheelchairs and to Henry for winning Wimbledon Boys. Joe though gets my vote in this group.
Henry is another exciting prospect for the future and Alfie had an incredibly impressive year, but my vote went to Joe for (like others who got my vote) battling through some low spots and delivering on the big occasions when men's doubles is so very competitive.

Agree re Joe and I could have voted for several here. 27 votes i, v close still.
As with all the groups, top spot seems secure and second is getting ahead. But 3rd is v much up for grabs, like Group C. This could also be one where we end up with a play off!

I do hope Alfie Hewett gets through this first round. Is going to be named ITF World Champion for the first time as year-end No.1 with two Slam singles titles and a further three in doubles. What does the man have to do...?
