Thanks CD - I see GB is seeded 2nd and plays Germany in the opening match - it is a straight knockout draw...

https://www.master-u-bnpparibas.net/en/team-draw-of-the-16th-masteru-bnp-paribas/

Format seems to be:

each match takes place at the best of 7 matches: 2 ladies singles, 2 men singles, 1 double ladies, 1 double gentlemen and 1 mixed double.

Germany lead GB 2-1 after the opening matches:

Ewen Lumsden beat Sanchez-Martinez 2-6 6-2 16-14 (MTB)

Vikki Allen lost to Dittmann 4-6 6-3 2-10

Finn Bass lost to Wiedenmann 7-5 5-7 7-10

V tight match overall

scores.tennisticker.de/fra/sb.html

Amelia is on court now and won her opening set 6-4 and is 0-2 second set versus Welker

After that, Finn and Mike Shaw play Martinez-Sanchez and Frantzen and then Amelia and Esther play Hohnhold and Dittmann.

If it is all square, it then goes to a single pro set of mixed doubles.

Need Amelia to win this match, though.

Britain came through and took the tie versus Germany 4-2, every match went to a match tie break though. Good effort.

Play the Aussies next.

I'm sure we could have put a stronger team out- no disrespect to those competing.
Finn and Millie are strong, but there are plenty more options playing in the US to add to the depth.

I'm not a big fan of Finn, and I know they like to balance the team with a bit of UK as well as US (hence, Mike Shaw is there) but I also wonder if the 'stronger' others would be interested in playing, especially those who are basically done with college tennis (those who graduated last year are still eligibile) - be curious to know who turned them down

Are these an official sort of world championships for national teams, or even an unofficial world championship?

Ok, thanks CD - is it by invitation, the 8 teams, or did they qualify to get here? Or some body has judged them to be the best 8 countries at Uni level?

sorry for lots of questions , just interested as I like this sort of event and team tennis generally, and hadnt come across this event , from memory, before!

this gives you the regulations, Jon (it's 2022 but I'm assuming it's still the same)

This is the picture of the GB winning team in 2017

(we've come second and third a lot too - we always seem to do well)

Try and recognise the faces ....

There were two girls there I failed miserably to place :(

Had to look them up

And one boy I wasn't 100% sure about

Thank you CD- so the top 7 of 8 get invited next year and the 8th gets moved around as a wildcard it seems.

good luck GB today and for next year, then!

Yes, I was like you, paulisi smile

In fact, it was Jack I wasn't completely sure about, but felt pretty confident about Scott Duncan

But no idea whatsoever on the other girls no

There are a lot of old articles in this link on the 2017 event and final.

Players mentioned above all get something written about them, only other name I could pick out from our team is Emma Hurst, not a name Ive come across before
