Its all about whos likely to win. My feeling is you never know with Emma how she would play. So she was worth the punt- Id have played Fran though instead of Katie. But its Annes call.

Agree JonH. Wonder what impact may be on Olympic team selection?

Based on ranking and eligibility and it's not a team competition but a standard knockout draw. So Katie will be there unless injured, and rightly so.

Oh thats a shame , given its on outdoor clay. Nevermind, she might get a bit more practice in before then. Heres hoping..

Perhaps for some context these are the rankings for 8/4 if they were based only on all clay results according to OER

11. Parry 779 pts (19 tournaments)
39. Burel 488 pts (10)
86. Garcia 300 pts (4)
137. (GB 1) Jones 216 pts (7)
423. Mladenovic 48 pts (14)
=577. (=GB 6) Dart 24 pts (4)
=577. (=GB 6) Watson 24 pts (4)
612. (GB 8) Boulter 20 pts (1)
1446. (GB 25) Raducanu 1 pt (1)

Largely irrelevant though as to who should be picked given the big divergences in number and quality of clay tournaments involved and largely dating back  to last year.

.I guess though it does show that Parry is rather useful on clay, while again these rankings do not give a true picture of her comparative clay ability as against Garcia.

None of our ladies have any chance of medalling at the Olympics though. The experience is a reward for prior performance and would be a real shame to take that away.

Ha Emma loses track and thinks she's served it out, but not yet.

5-1*

And some big smiles and laughs at the mistake.

Go Emma

I was thinking before the final point - wish she'd get more first serves in
