She was actually serving for the first set but couldnt close it out. Could have been a dramatic win against a player who reached #65 this summer with $1.25 m earnings at the age of 21. Couldnt quite do it but a great efort.
Worth noting here - as someone else did on one of the other threads very recently - that Angelica Blake is listed as USA on certain sites - the other poster was posing the question whether she's now changed nationalities for tennis
I had mentioned it because the tournament website had her as GBR in the player field when they first announced her as a wildcard and later in the week changed it to USA. Had they had her as USA from the off I would have just put it down as a mistake, but the fact that they changed it aroused my suspicions. As it's her home venue I thought they might know something in advance of official changes.
Incidentally, although she has complete her undergraduate studies I believe she is staying at Stanford for another year.
The only thing that matters is that the ITF, WTA and LTA all have her as British. I can tell you that she is happy about that ! As are her British Parents. No secret plâns afoot .
Not much can be done with her accent I guess but shes not the only British player with that issue.
And yes, her plan is to do another year at Stanford to compensate for the missed Covid year.
