Katie S seems to have decided that SHE is going to be the next GB number One!

Very well closed out in the end! Well played, and the better player won out (just).

So happy for Katie! She has all the makings of a top 100 player. She just needs to stay injury free.

Sonay looked A1 fine yesterday. And I saw her quite a bit afterwards, and she wasn't complaining about any pains or whatever (that I heard), she was jolly and upbeat.

But I still think Katie B will win on grass.

The 'old guard' are in their prime, statistically. Katie B is only 26, it's hardly 'old'

I think your argument applies to Heather, that's for sure, but not to Katie, Jodie, Harriet etc. yet

My real interest is on Katie Swan. I've always said she's a shoo-in for top-100 if she's not injured. She has real depth and power AND plays a smart game.

Isa did brilliantly. And Talia was decent. And Mika was respectably for her age. (Hannah R wasn't really at the races).
Marni and Millie were both impressive too, and have more to give. So, of the new gaurd, it's interesting, definitely.

But I think Katie B has more to give. And Katie Swan might be flying

Well, I'm sticking with my two Katies !

Katie loses the break in tame style from *40-15.

From 4-1* to *4-4

Katie gets a set point at 5-4*, is on top of the point but frames a forehand.

*5-5

I'd forgotten Golubic made the Wimbledon quarter finals!

I think the previous R2 match between Dart and Maria, helped Katie S in today's match. On the whole there was quite a bit of clear thinking going on by Swan, and the strategy to counter Maria's game did work. Also Harriet pushing Maria to a three set battle, probably meant that Maria had a bit less in the tank in the deciding set today against Swan. I thought Maria's level dropped a bit in the 3rd set, her serve was more erratic, and that together with Swan's good play helped to force the breaks of serve that were crucial at the end.

Harriet played well at times in her match against Maria, but I think she will look back at the match as an opportunity lost. A lot of the rallies were on her racquet, but she just didn't stay patient. Harriet will bounce back though, it's the grass court season.

Indeed, and was an unfortunate victim of the Wimbledon points debacle last year, as she dropped out the Top 100 because she couldn't defend any of her QF points the year before.

Katie keeping it steady, currently on serve:

[8] Katie Boulter GBR 6-5* Viktorija Golubic SUI

Good set, Katie B

Not AI perfect but some good serving, and really nice ground shots, with depth and penetration
