Dan didn't really do enough to win, I think, but then, Korda didn't let him!  God, he (Korda) doesn't half look like his father!  Pity about the Alice band...

Must have read your comment wink Sebastian has ditched the hairband in favour of a sharp haircut smile Should be a good match vs band wearing Tiafoe (who incidentally is friends with another of my sons team mates and is a really lovely guy).

Edit - Nooo, hes slipped it on whilst I was typing this

On the theme of commentators, lets spend a moment to remember the greatest tennis commentator ever. The voice of wimbledon, The voice of tennis Dan Maskell. Often said nothing for so long that you forgot he was there, and it scared you half to death when he suddenly spoke My Word ! Then hed go back to sleep for another 4 minutes. Read a nice little biography (despite some dreadful English at times) of him here if it pleases the court.

Haha- maskell and his voice was displayed well in the recent Gods of Tennis series by the BBC; his voice was the main commentary voice through most of the action clips. As you say, excellent timing and use of silence .

I used to like him with John Barrett, they always seemed to do the final together, mens final, and then Mark Cox also was a decent commentator as well at the time. But Maskell and Barrett (wasnt Barrett, Angela Mortimers husband or some such, certainly a tennis player was his wife)

Maskell , of course, was synonymous with Queen's Club - he was a pro in the days when they were looked down on but he actually became the head pro at Queens Club, both teaching there and being a bit like a golf pro would be at a big club these days, but he also played the pro circuit events back in the day before it all became open

He also had tragedy as both his first wife and son died in separate incidents in the Caribbean , son in a plane crash and his first wife drowned, although he later remarried

He was wonderful. He just used to say 'Oh I say' and you could just picture something wonderful having happened. A peach of a shot...

Very much missed. Superlative Commentary.

One of my favourite quotes from him came well into an evening match on the old court 1; it was along the lines of "And the light really is getting rather dark now."

The pedant in me would argue that light can't get dark, but I forgave him!!!

Was he the one who would whistle as he spoke. I remember my Great Grandmother, who was well into her 90s herself, getting very irritated by that.
