Weeks 22 & 23 - French Open (Roland-Garros) Grand Slam - Paris - Clay

We have no singles entrants in the main draw, neither as direct entrants nor any who have come through qualis

However, it seems right to have a thread

Firstly, officially to note the lack of GB female participants

For forum posterity, so to speak

And, secondly, in case there are other matches/performances that people want to discuss/note (I know this is a GB forum, but it is a Grand Slam smile

And Zhang, the 29th seed, has just lost 1 & 1

Congrats to Storm Sanders (now Hunter) who is WTA 204, obviously far more focused on doubles (she's WTA 5) and yet she's qualified here on clay, and then just taken out Parrizas Diaz today in three sets

Pretty sure if this was Wimbledon it would be completely different

Feels like there is a big gap in how Europe and UK view this whole thing and the difference between country and
Individual ?

It's a pity Katie B could not have served out to win the match against Krueger . Even if she had lost in the final round of qualifying her chances of being a lucky loser would have been quite good. There were 4 spots available initially  which increased by another 2 today. Erika Andreeva joins her younger sister in the main draw. The highest ranked player in qualifying Osorio has now got into the main draw with McNally pulling out. I  wonder if there will be any more lucky losers?

Alize Cornet extended her record to 65 for  consecutive appearances in Grand Slam singles. Unfortunately it was a short lived appearance as she lost to Camila Giorgi in the 1st round. Some of the qualifiers have gone down to heavy defeats in the 1st round but Clara Tauson was a big exception  in the other direction as she only lost 2 games against Sasnovich.

Maybe Katie Swan will be pleased....

And Jaggy will be pleased with Camila's win

But, yep, it's been a pretty poor day for the French

Only Léolia got a win against a non-French player - and that was two wildcards against each other

(Lucas P might bump it up but that's against a LL so you can't be too OTT about it)

Paolini made the doubles semi-final in Florence on the clay, a week or so ago, partnering Errani. She also breezed through the singles draw there, too. Might be a portent.

And beat Freya and Ali 0 & 4 in the first round. But Paolini's previous doubles tournaments were Rome and the AO where she lost both in the first round - partnering Trevisan.

Call me cynical but how can Jodie be fit enough to practice on grass this week but not French Open qualifying?
