Thought I would start a new thread rather than adding this into the politics thread as I would hope that the fight against climate change spans the political spectrum and crosses international borders. I posted the other day (and again here) that Spain produced enough renewable energy to power the entire country for 9 hours.
This is an excellent idea and one that I applaud. For other countries to follow suit, it may require additional investment in the rail network, but would that be a bad thing ? I would love to see Spain adopt a similar strategy. We have an excellent High Speed rail service which should be able to cope with the additional demand.
I like that French idea, though I imagine only fully applicable in a handful of larger western European countries which already have established and affordable rail networks (whether pleasant experiences or not). I use the Italian network a lot and, even if it's not always bulletproof on reliabiity, crucially it's extensive and relatively cheap and I can travel a lot further for a lot less than it takes in Britain.
From Cardiff, I mostly have to fly from Bristol to Edinburgh when I visit family in Scotland, and there is no direct - or even semi-direct - route from Wales to Scotland, you need to take a couple of connecting trains, and it almost always costlier than planes and takes at least four or five times longer. Until we sort out those anomalies of connecting pretty big towns/cities at an affordable rate, we'd struggle to be in that sort of position to take this step in Britain.
It wouldnt surprise me if certain posters in the thread below that think womens toilets are under threat dont believe in climate change. GB news fans etc

Showing yourself up again
Yes, I didn't see that as a helpful contribution to the rational discussion that Jaggy professes to want to see on such a complex matter.
Whatever his or others' thoughts on some of your posts, emmsie, to me they are clearly profoundly felt. So are there perhaps for discussion and debate ( when maybe too often sone folk don't say what they rhink ) but not for mockery on another thread.
It is probably too many folk not saying what they really think that has left us with the situation effecting USTA women's tournaments. I don't see many ( no-one here? ) saying that they've currently got that one right.
Such angry vitriol and assumption about who I was referring to, it wasnt you emmsie and it was tongue in cheek anyway.
Does kind of highlight the issue about people shouting at each other though which kind of annoys me about both the left and the right these days.
It is a very clear observation however and yes a generalisation but those who dont believe in climate change are also the TERF types who are also angry about black lives matters. The Laurence Fox, Darren Grimes and soon to be ex presenter Dan Wooton. Live and let live and be kind etc out the window with these guys.

My question is why is that the case?
Oh please. Anyone reading this thread knows that comment was aimed at me. And you always hide behind the 'Oh it was made tongue in cheek' when you get found out.
