Week 21 - French Open Grand Slam Qualifying- Paris, France Clay

Unfortunately, Fran retired at that point. Hopefully nothing serious but sad end to her clay campaign.

(21) Ylena In-Albon SUI d. Francesca Jones GBR 4-1 ret.

Yes, your stomach just sinks whenever you see that Fran has retired

Hoping it's just a blip .....

All the best, Fran

Fran's had a great run this clay court season, and finished with a win in French Open qualies.

That's such a shame! I honestly thought she could make the main draw. I hope it's nothing serious!

This is the way to look at her progress so far on her way back to fitness

Good start from Harriet

I'm relying more on Else to blow this than Harriet to actually win it

But, hopefully, it'll have the same result

Elsa, being young, and with a big game, and with the pressure of the crowd, and the pressure of having won the French Open Juniors which caused huge hoo-hah, as you can imagine, is almost certainly going to spray a lot of balls.

Harriet needs to make it tricky for her..... which she's often quite good at

Beautifully constructed point from Harriet to take the opening set 6-1

I think Harriet's playing really well today. Much more convincing than yesterday - well so far at least...

Great first set.

Elsa doing 100% what was expected.

Tried to play aggressively, overplayed, then instantly back-pedalled and was playing way too conservatively

Harriet kept moving it around, not allowing Elsa to get any cadence in the exchanges, and dictated the style of play, making it tricky, and highlighing Elsa's weak movement on clay (or anything really)
