It was a keenly fought match from 5-1 in the first set. Eraydin was obviously more confident on the clay, but Swan stayed calm and held her game together. A good win, and good practice.
That's a disappointment. Maklacova, a powerful player, she out-rallied and to an extent out-served Swan. It didn't seem the belief was quite there today, from Swan, too many unforced errors, especially at deuce. It was an uncharacteristic performance, I'd say. Both players playing from the baseline, and the more powerful player edged it.
It's been a tough few months for Swan, the injury just before Australian Open qualifying was a real setback. That happened so soon after a good pre-season and the excellent performances in the United Cup, it must have been dispiriting. Now the injuries seem to have largely cleared up, but at a time when she's having to compete on possibly her least favourite surface. Hopefully, things will turn around over the next month or two.
