Even in doubles, should we really be allowing a top 20 player to play a 60k? Especially as there's two 250s and a 125 going on this week

 Especially one of Shibahara's pedigree - as runner-up in the AO doubles just three days ago !

She is probably trying to her improve her rather lowly singles ranking of 606. Her aim is probably to get it high enough to enter both singles and doubles in WTA events.

She'll have to play a few more tournaments then ! This is her first of the year, and the previous one was November in Tokyo as a WC where she lost in the first round.
