They met on clay in Stuttgart in 2022 with Emma winning in three

They met in Eastbourne in 2022 with Harriet winning in three

Tricky for Harriet. I'd missed it but she played at Kooyong today, losing to Linda Fruhvirtova 6-7(2) 6-3 10-4.

The winner of Emma's R1 match gets (7) Gauff or Siniakova in R2.

Hopefully Emma's ankle is on a fast mend. Her initial practice was reportedly very cautious.

 The second practice was a bit better. I hope she doesn't take any foolish risks but with a relatively kind draw she's bound to be tempted to defend last year's points at least.

Yes, she wins it 6-3. Overall, pretty good given the circumstances of ankle etc. Think its important she tries to press home the advantage and not get dragged into a long nervy match
