2023 Titles, Seniors & Juniors, Singles & Doubles

I had time to kill so listed all the tournie winners in weeks 1 to 9 so far from Indy's listings (wheelchair players have won other events than the slams but we are just including slams in the list Indy creates)

Note - whoever tops this list and isnt already qualified will get into Player of the Season vote at year end (last season it was Julian Cash and Henry Patten who topped it but were already in anyway)

FWIW , Alfie has 6 titles already this season incl 2 slams. And a singles final in the USA tonight to come. If we counted all his titles, hed win this at a canter. Not saying we should but just highlighting his performance

Re this thread, for wheelchair competitors I personally will continue to just list Slam titles.

In general I also occasionally add in such as team titles or U14 success. Other folk can certainly make additions as they see fit.

Re most titles by a player(sl being a qualifier for the PoS vote then I would say that counting further titles for wheelchaiir players does raise a question of the depth of competition being faced and I would think much more likelihood of multiple titles from a strong performer.

I am sure we all admire the wheelchair competitors but I just put that out there. Though, Jon, the qualification criteria for PoS is your area.

Yes, leaving aside wheelchair tennis, the U14 titles for Mark Ceban is a little random in terms of inclusion.

i.e. including the Super U14 events are one thing (Les Petits As) but including his Category 1 (Bolton) is another as most Category 1 events don't usually get mentioned on here and what about Category 2? Where to draw the line?

Just to be clear, I don't care one way or another I rather like a slightly random personal input, I feel it makes life less prescriptive, a litte more spontaneous. But it's true that if you're being very methodical, it begs a few questions...

 Absolutely and I agree re the wheelchair players and depth. I dont plan to count titles beyond the slams as you post and agree totally with what youve just posted above. My comments on Alfies titles are more for information than anything. 

I dont know whether the winning of most titles is a massive thing to boast about but as Just one criteria to help us fill the field of contenders for player of the season it seems as reasonable an objective measure of a possible candidate as most others !

And just adding weeks 13 and 14 to the tally for the season so far, we now have 5 players with 3 wins (including the Junior U16 Nationals, as I am just adding up the numbers that Indy puts on his list of notable titles) )

Clearly , dominated by juniors so far - and no doubt in the absence of Julian and Henry tearing up the Challenger doubles circuit , we will see juniors dominate this list all season.

All of the above are in action in Week 15, so we may see one or more of them add to their title haul.

Hey Indy - I hope this isnt pushy, I wondered if you had any thoughts on creating a week 15, 16 list of winners? No rush though, was just interested in updating where we have reached ??!
