Disappointing initial entry list for the women in Sunderland. Boulter and Burrage at present preferring France and no sign of Swan, Kartal, Brogan?

Strange not to support a Home 60K.

Yes, disappointing, but mostly understandable. The French 60K will be preferred as it is not far from Lyon for the WTA250 the following week, although Boulter appears to be in Thailand that following week (currently 1st alt for the MD) so I'd be surprised if she came back to Europe to play either 60K. Perhaps if Burrage doesn't make WTA Lyon qualifying when the list is out on Monday she'll change her preference for this week to Sunderland. If Swan is smart, given her injury fragility, she should be a bit more selective than others and if she is to progress she should be targeting WTAs when she does play. Kartal is the one I am most surprised not to see on the list. I wonder if she is staying in Aus for their ITF series? Brogan played deep into December having played 8 events over an 11 week period so maybe having a late off season.

Which all raises the question as to what the LTA strategy is to decide to hold a 60K at this time and who is at aimed at?

Yes, normally I would say that popping over to France from the UK and back, say, is a complete nothing for a tennis player, that of course you'd play Sunderland, and then back to France

But the French have been quite smart in putting their 60k in Andrieux-B which is only about 70k from Lyon, so practically next door really

However, what I don't uunderstand is when I click on the entry list for France, there's Jodie and Katie

And when I click on the entry list for Sunderland there's Jodie and Katie there too?

SO why do we think they're doing France?

From the itf site listings, how does one tell which their preference is? I see Tauson and Noskova also have their names in both GB and France lists. France list seems ever so slightly stronger

Because they both have Lyon as priority 1 and Sunderland as priority 2

There are 2 versions of the page. It will show the more limited view that doesn't contain priority, among other things, if the screen/window size is less than a certain width.

Also there is the other unofficial site which is good for looking at entries:

https://itf-entries.netlify.app/tournament/W-ITF-GBR-02A-2023

It allows you to tick priority 1 entries only so you can see only those who have it has their top choice. Also you can click on a players name and see their other ITF entries.

Jodie and Katie both have the W40 in India as their third priority where they are 3 and 4 on the acceptance list. But France will take preference over the other two unless they withdraw.

Thanks, everyone

I normally just wait and see who turns up where - and then follow them

And rely on here just to have a vague idea of what might be coming down the pipeline

Appreciate all the info

Updated with withdrawals.

In the end Burrage chose Sunderland and Boulter pulled out of everything (presumably as she is playing WTA event in Thailand the following week.)
