Future of Player of the Month / Season

As you will have are , Im stopping doing this after the player of season vote finishes tomorrow. Its been a blast but I cant continue.

but I hope PoM and PoS do continue - if you feel like you can give it the time, energy and love to take it forwards can I suggest anyone interested puts their name forwards in this thread.

I hope someone is willing and good luck ! Ill be sticking around the forum , not going anywhere, just need to recapture some of my life !

interested parties apply in this thread - suspect it will be first come , first served type of thing !

I did Emmsie , but my job has since changed and I genuinely dont have the time. Last year I was in a poorer place mentally and it was a gut reaction, this year Im cool and clear that stopping is the best thing to do.

thanks for your support though !

In response to Emmsies note above - and thinking it through some more.

No one has put their hand up at all. So

My issue is time but that can be resolved in part by job sharing.

I havent thought it through too much but options to consider might be:

1) we agree a common format and structure (ie same as now or change it)
2) we rota it so one person does month 1, another does month 2 etc - nominations list and poll process

With 11 players of the month polls and 1 end year player of the season process, that would be 12 processes to manage. We could split that between 2, 3, 4 or 6 people.

Id be happy to be part of that team if anyone else was willing to sign up. If youre not sure, drop me a PM and we can discuss. It would keep the PoM process going, which I think we all value. If a couple or few people let me know before January is here, I can set up a little PM chat in the background to work out a plan and process that works for us all.

I can manage it that way, it is just doing it every month that is difficult for me and knowing that the workload was shared would be good. 2 people would help, 3 would be great, 4 better and 6 even better still (that would be 12 polling processes over the year split 2 each, if we had 6).

Please have a think.

I'd give it a fair bit longer to see if we have one person to maybe take it on before looking more into specific job sharing arrangements. Folk can continue just to add December / January nominations to the appropriate thread.

Though of coure, in the meantime it would be good to hear of offers of people who would be available to do some of the time as well as any full season offers.

ive been trying to work out what takes me so much time and what I need to jettison to make it work for me. The easy bit, in fact, is posting the nominations thread and then posting and closing the poll at the end of each month.

Frankly, that takes a few minutes each time. So that isnt difficult.

What takes the time and is probably more about me is the constant updates during the voting and nominations process - rightly or wrongly I want this to be a success and , for me, that equates to participation. I feel - rightly or wrongly - that if I dont do the updates regularly during a vote to keep it near the top of peoples attention on the board, that people will not participate. But the reality probably is that a) I am completely wrong and b) it probably doesnt matter. By that I mean, people probably will find it and vote without all the updates from me, if they are interested and , secondly, why does it really matter if we get 35 instead of 40 votes ? It doesnt, does it.

So , given no one has come forward for either full time take over or job share, here is my way forwards.

1) I will not step down and will continue to do this - but to make it work, I will limit it to posting the PoM nominations thread, posting the PoM poll and running the process around the player of the season

2) I will back down to a minimum all of the updates and posting during the vote or the nominations process. What might help is if those who like the polls and do want to see them be a success with many voters taking part, perhaps others (like JohnnyAitch, or TA, or Indy or Steven) could be a promoter of the poll and encourage (in lieu of me doing it) participation as much as possible during the votes?

So, although it wasnt done in a fit of pique, on that basis I will continue with PoM and PoS and it wont disappear.

At this point, I see the likes of Emmsie, CD and TA and others having a wry smile and slapping their foreheads - well, for that I apologise -

and lets move on!!

That does sound a sensible way forward Jon, as long as you are happy with it.
While totally understanding you want to encourage participation, if the updates are what's taking up your time, then we can manage without them. And as you say, there's nothing to stop other people doing updates and reminders from time to time.
Thanks smile

 Thanks Jan!

Being honest,  I suspect some will be relieved if the updates I post reduce, I realise not everyone likes them!! I get a little carried away!

Have a Happy Christmas!

Just my tuppence-ha'pworth.....

I agree with Jan - the competition runs reasonably well, you don't need to thank people when someone nominates someone (the thread is already bumped up by the nomination).
I don't think we need promotions unless - say - the thread is untouched for two weeks. So maybe put up the initial thread and then leave it for two weeks, it will probably grow organically, and might surprise you
And the updates for the actual votes are quite interesting sometimes but not too many ! otherwise no one clicks on it. Maybe one a day in the evening ?

By the end of the AO Jon will be spamming the thread again:) possibly even before that.
I think between us all we can keep the thread running pretty well. We all just need to remember to add a more complete reason for the nomination so at the end of the season it is much easier to do the seasons end poll.
And also add our nominations to the list rather than just add a comment to the thread. If there is a nomination not added, any one of us can cut and paste it onto the list ourselves.
