2022 British Player of the Season Vote - Round One, Group A

NOTE - one voter mistakenly voted for Joe instead of Ryan. Hence, the votes showing in the poll above should in increased by one for Ryan and reduced for Joe by one to get the correct number of votes

So, here we go. The first of 4 Round One groups, 7 of 28 players.

Vote for the player of these that you feel is the Player of the Season - if you feel someone in another group is more deserving, don't worry - please still vote here and we will see as the field whittles down who is the overall player of the season. There are very thin margins:

Our seven players in Group A are summarised below. Rankings as of today (if inaccurate, please advise); Win Loss record taken from ITF site Sunday 4th December (again advise if you feel it is materially wrong); Tournie wins listed.

I haven't done any colour narrative such as age, or big individual wins or overcoming trauma etc etc. I will leave that your views, these are just he facts. But if you have something you would like to add to support your player, please, please write it down in a post.

And, finally, please say who you vote for any why!!

RULES

Top 3 plus ties will progress to the semis.

Votes will close in 48 hours, ie 10 am Wednesday.

Players with zero votes will not be able to progress ie if only one or two players get a vote, then fewer than 3 players will progress to the next round

Please note, I have mixed the groups up, so 3 or 4 men and women in each. I have also tried to mix doubles players across groups, wheelchair players as well, juniors ditto. And to keep elite tour level players apart where possible.
I have also separated PoM winners across the groups and PoM Runners Up ditto.

And British number ones as far as possible as well.

But it isnt an exact science, and sorry if some of your favourites are grouped together - them is the breaks!!

Group B will be posted around 2 pm this afternoon.

Happy voting

My personal view is that 3 players could have got my vote - I was tempted to vote Hannah or Sonay; in the past I have tried to look at stats and got myself tied in knots. This time I went for achievements and for me, Joe winning the US Open and first Brit to win the Tour Finals got my vote in this group.

A slow start to the votes, just 2 in so far. The 10 am start clearly makes a difference. I am actually using these 4 polls to see if timing makes a difference to either the total number of votes (am not expecting so) or the rhythm of the votes (ie how quickly and when) to see which make the most interesting timings. I will use those to inform the timings of the semis polls and the final.

It may of course make naff all difference but let's see and I feel spreading them out , in itself, makes it more interesting

Between Joe and Sonay for me.
Decided on Joe. What a brilliant year for him!

OK, I'll go with Sonay, just over Ryan.

I don't know why it's been stretched so much that it makes the text so tiny but it's made it unreadable to me as my eyes head towards the inevitable state of needing to wear glasses. And I don't know if that had a bearing on when I tried to vote for Ryan it showed him not having received a vote.

Hi Brendan - yep, my fault as I had written a lot more text in a line for one of the players and it stretched the posting field.

I have amended it now and hopefully it is back in line with normality and suitable for ageing eyes!! PS I do wear glasses already!!

Hi - no one has voted for Ryan yet, we have a total of 5 votes in so it seems to be working for some people ok.

Let me know if you can vote now or if anyone else is having an issue with voting?

Would it be possible to figure out 8who I inadvertently voted for and make a note that it should have been for Ryan?

Hi Brendan - well, not sure - this is who we have so far:

Joe 3 (Jan and myself voted for Joe, it might be the other Joe vote? )

Hannah 1 (no one has put their hand up for Hannah yet!)

Sonay 1 (Indy voted for Sonay).

I think it may have been Joe (as he is next to Ryan on the list) although it may also have been Hannah...if someone comes forward as voting for either of those two earlier, then I can take account of that...

For now, lets say it is:

Joe 2 1/2

Sonay 1

Ryan 1

Hannah 1/2

Until further notice!

And I will watch the text amount in future!!!

ah ha - good stuff. So that makes sense, Brendan's vote went to Joe instead of Ryan.

So, Joe will have one taken off the headline number and Ryan one added and current scores are:

Joe 2

Hannah 1

Ryan 1

Sonay 1

thanks all
