This seems like a random big event thrown in do we have any players in the main draw and whats the field like overall?
Jon we only have the two players in Qualifying. Daria Snigur is the top seed at 105 and last one in the main draw at the moment would be Dalila
Jakupovic at 256.
Thanks DF - it does seem somewhat randomly placed as an event at this level. Unless there are other big Gulf located events around it (tennis wise i mean!) for this level of player - obviously We have a few exhibitions in abu dhabi and Saudi coming up.

I suspect the purpose is to attract players to do a block of off season training at the Academy finishing off with a tournament with free hospitality to try what they've been working on in training in a competitive environment. For Europeans it can be a 2/3/4 week stopover on their way to Oz in a much warmer climate.

This event has been running for over 20 years. Pretty much always at this time of year as far back as I can remember.
Nagy, who has a career high just outside the top 100 and retired in 2014 but I think works/coaches in Dubai, actually won the first ever edition of it back in 1998 when it was a 25k. It became a 75k the following year and has been a 100k since 2016.
