TV Coverage

Deep down in this story in the Daily Mail about the WC, is a section relating to tennis.

It states that Sky Sports are going to launch a dedicated Tennis channel next year.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-11450465/SPORTS-AGENDA-BBC-big-names-stump-business-class-flights-World-Cup-Qatar.html

Sky Sports will launch a tennis channel to coincide with five-year deals to screen the ATP and WTA Tours.

Sky are confident they have landed both competitions which, when added to the US Open, will provide them with hours of content.

An announcement is due early next year.

Such a shame Amazon are not continuing was easy to use and good coverage. Hopefully the sky sports apps allow for as easy access to all courts at tournaments as the Amazon one did. I often find as a Virgin Media subscriber you dont always get the red button stuff on the apps.
Hopefully Im mistaken and they actually put some work into it but I wont hold my breath.

I am not a Mail reader, but the link came from here.

Mike Dickson is usually very reliable.

It's a real shame if Amazon have lost the contract. The coverage has been so good and comprehensive - I've watched more matches in the last year than would have even been possible before, and often have had matches on the second screen attached to my laptop when supposed to be working. And catching up on missed matches has been so easy - Sky will struggle to get anywhere near the coverage.

Further thoughts on the Sky news.
Unfortunately having a dedicated channel is a dated way of thinking. If the ATP want to encourage more people and especially a younger audience then the Amazon experience is closer to how that audience will consume sports etc

Agreed, that's why when it was revealed Amazon weren't continuing I hoped WB Discovery would take it. Then you'd have the linear channels on the rebranded Eurosport/BT Sport for those that prefer that way of viewing and the streaming platform for full coverage and those that don't watch linear channels.

Has Amazon said when it's contract is up?

I just looked at the  tennisontelly website, and Lee says that Amazon's ATP coverage ends in 2023 andWTA in 2024 - but no idea whether that means the end of the year or not. The USO is reportedly backon Sky in 2023

Amazon's ATP and WTA contracts are to end of 2023.
