Qualifying in these 60Ks is surprisingly weak this week. Shame a few more of our girls aren't taking advantage, but all credit to Emily and Freya.
Yes, I am sure to a large extent both Freya and Emily App's W60 participations are to do with their doubles. But qualifying in these events is again yielding ranking points and their singles games do seem to be getting into better shape than for quite some time. But they have been easily into qualifying ( nearly into the MDs ) and indeed there certainly appears to be good opportunities in these events for more singles orientated players.

It could be due to the large number of tournaments this week, One WTA125, one W80, three W60s, six W25s and seven W15s. With a lot of top players involved in the BJK cup the players are spread more thinly than usual this week.
It's partly due to a ludicrous situation whereby the vast bulk of hard court ITF points have been available in October and November this year, when there were huge swaths of the year with almost no tournaments earlier on.
It's very hard for players to plan a sensible yearly calendar of training blocks and tournaments when the next year's schedule is still unknown.
I don't blame players for being burnt out now, having started in January. They need to be able to plan ahead for 2023 from this point, but that is currently impossible.

I'll give them a pass this year due to the still unknown Covid situation earlier in the year, lots of Countries still being cautious until the Summer, but next year there does need to be a better balance
There may not be many of our higher ranked players in action this week, but today there are 12 girls playing in qualifying, plus one in doubles. No doubt there will be a few others when the main draws come out - Seagull lists another 10.

Yes I understand it would be tough for the top girls who have had such busy schedules, but I was really disappointed when Sonay dropped out as she has played sparingly this year (still only 15 counters) and these late 60Ks offered a great opportunity to crank up her ranking before the Australian swing. Such a shame Katy had to pull out too but I guess she must be injured again as she was already in Israel.
For women who have ostensibly gone there for doubles, they've had very nice singles quali draws (which they've taken advantage of well, all credit to them) and now have the best sort of main draws you could hope for
