There are many comments in the 17/10 eventlist thread about the 6 BYEs and the lack of players to fill the spots

I'm repeating mine here:

"Ridiculous - GB Women's tennis should be ashamed of itself

I just don't get the vacant places

There was a British Tour event in Glasgow this week - why didn't those players enter here????

Yes, of course there's a big jump in level - but they're up in Glasgow, they're fit and playing, it's a match week, it's great experience, why on earth not put yourself in?"

Slightly changing tack but still critical -
The strategy of hosting W60, followed by a W25 and then a W100 doesnt seem to make much sense to me - completely different sets of players, Id have thought it benefits everyone much
More to have 3 similarly levelled events grouped together? Im sure someone will argue vehemently against me and suggest good reasons why 3 levels is good, but I dont get the logic !

It's a 60k, so decent points if you win a qualifier and prize money as well. Seems like a missed opportunity

Totally agree about the Glasgow W60. There appear to be a few byes almost everywhere next week - not sure why.

Isn't that the point? To maximise opportunities for British players, you want to minimise overseas players by not offering an opportunity where its worth their while flying over and staying here for the block of tournaments.

Makes no sense to see empty slots. The players should have been falling over themselves to try and grab a spot given it is on home soil. Some may blame the organisers or the LTA but what about the players themselves.

If true that seems a real dog in the manger attitude. All players prefer to play a sequence of events in the same country and of similar standing. The only players who would benefit from a sequence of 60-25-100 are those ranked roughly 400-600.

I would think Ella McDonald has main draw WC as she is based at Stirling.

Indeed telstar and all the worse when not even enough Brits fill out the qualifying draw.

The 16th qualifying seed is Abigail Amos, WR 1396 on 4 points, so she was going to get an even lower ranked player or much nore likely an unranked player in QR1 to initially play for 3 points.

The player she has drawn is Summer Yardley. All these other players could have entered and drawn Abilgail or a not dissimilarity ranked player in QR1, surely not so outwith many's comfort zones and good experience whatever even if they expected a stronger entry.

QR1: APPLETON, Emily (GBR) (15) 1003 (CH=501 2018) def. LYNCH, Isabella (GBR) UNR 6-2 6-0

COngrats to both for putting themselves in, and turning up !

A normal programme calendar for a tennis player deliberately has a mix of events, including ones you're effectively too good for, normal ones at the right level (the majority), and ones that are above your level

So even IF this event is a bit toppy in terms of level, it's a perfect one for some players to chance their arm in, as Isabelle did here.

And, as Indy says, the level isn't even as high as many will have expected anyway....

Nice easy win for Talia against the unranked Moldovian

Amelia Stuart was beaten by the French 7th seed

Deary me. Do you think that the acceptance list was that long a few weeks ago that some of the girls just didnt think they would have a chance of getting in?
It will be good to see if the 25K at Loughborough and 100 K at Shrewsbury follow suit.

For now will this will moveTalia ahead of Jasmine Conway as GB's top ranked U18 in the live rankings and into the the world top 20 U18s. Overall to GB live #20 and closing in on the world top 600.
