Just wondering if anyone else watched the documentary about Mo Farah this evening. A truly remarkable story about how he was trafficked into the UK as a child, held captive in domestic servitude, forced to use a different name - his real name is Hussein Abdi Kahin - and how he eventually forged a life for himself despite such difficult beginnings.
What I took out of this more than anything was the role of his PE Teacher, in whom he first confided and how this teacher believe in Mo, fought to help him gain British citizenship and most importantly kept the whole story in confidence until Mo himself decided to take the courageous option to go public about his past.
It makes me wonder how many more teachers like that are doing such amazing things for such children under equally difficult circumstances but about whom we never hear, because their students don't turn out to be knighted Olympic gold medal winners.
So to all those unsung heroes out there, like Mr Watkinson, I salute you.
As for Mo himself, the more I learn, the more admiration and respect I have for him.
