As one person in twenty five now has Covid, that seems the most likely reason. If one was infected and was with the other, then both may have been excluded.

Could well have been travel arrangements too - if they were travelling together and travelling in on Saturday and got delayed and then it got cancelled - travel is a bit of a mess....
