After the Scolari farce, the FA have finally signed Steve McClaren.

will have to wait and see really i think. it can be hard to tell how a coach will perfom b4 hand.

i do think the FA are absolutly ridiculous in the way they have gone about this, perhaps someone can explain the pressing need for them to announce they would have the next manager in place b4 the world cup. Surely a simple when we find the right man we will let you know would have sufficed. I dont know if its the press's fault, or the fa's fault for pandering to them.

stupid really as most world class manager have jobs already and are not hanging around the dole queue, after the world cup i am sure some mangers will move on for various reasons giving us much more choice.

Mcclarens got a great record in cup competitions and given that England should breeze through any qualification group ever I think its a good appointment for world cups and euro champs as these tend to work more like cup comps even tho there's a group stage. C'mon the 3 lions!

I agree, I think Steve's the best of all the English managerial options. He's had experience of working for a big club [Manchester United] and he's had plenty of success with Middlesbrough, taking them from lower-table mediocrity to UEFA cup finalists and producing some inspirational half-time talks.

He's also made a smart move in suggesting that he'd like Terry Venables to be on his coaching team. Venables is a brilliant tactician and man-motivator and his experience would be invaluable for England. The only problem is that there are people high-up in the FA who wouldn't want that to happen,

I personally don't have much time for McLaren but can only wish him and England well.

Martin O'Neill would have been a better choice in my opinion.

I agree Martin O'Neill would have been a better choice but after Scolari the FA seemed determined to have an English manager and McLaren was the best of the English ones.

For some reason, the FA seemed to have something against O'Neill.

I don't really share everyones fascination with Martin O Neill. Firstly he's a passionate Northen Irish man and probab;y didn't want the job. Also despite doing nice things with Leicester and Wycombe he's never won anything big, and my hamster could probably mange Celtic to the Scottish league title.

Venables would be a good call though! Adie Boothroyd for the Under 21's!
