Only one seed, Jabeur, ranked higher than Emma left in.

Kalinina is  currently  the highest ranked player yet to win a WTA singles tournament. Probably  least  well known Ukrainian in top 100. .

I think you'll find that Emma is the highest ranked player yet to win a WTA singles tournament.

I guess this all depends on whether you include the US Open as a WTA tournament for the purposes of this! Emma is highest if you dont, Kalinina if you do!

I took my information from tennis abstract which says yet to win  WTA title and gives Kalinina.  Just exclude Emma illustrates the point better..

Such a list should sensibly include all WTA "level" tournaments so include Slams.

The TA list indeed does include slams in their definition of this list.

Two fabulous results and performances from Emma. No doubt the Madrid clay suits her and so does having a day to recover plus the fact she hasn't had to struggle through three sets. All contributing to less stress on the body and fitness and long may that remain the case.

The foundation for it all is her serve which seems to have fond its mojo again By far the best she has played since the US Open.

Next round will be a lot tougher though. Kalinina is no mug on clay and is playing to a pretty decent level right now. Tournament is wide open for all those left in it though I thought Halep looked very good the other day.

The late match on the main court for Emma tomorrow. Different court and evening match.. . Not my first choice for her right now. But hey ..

1-2*

Every time I see Kalinina's ranking I do a double take. Feels like it has come from nowhere.

She's beaten some very good players this year.

So good to have two quality commentators!

I really feel the LTA should be getting Laura doing some coaching - she spots stuff so fast.

Very good set 2-6 6-2 1-0*

Worked it out well in that part of the match. Hope she can keep it up.
