Wow, that's got to be the best win of her career by some distance, especially the score. Their last tournaments was the same one, a W25 in France, Emily lost to a WC in qualifying, whereas Kempen went on to take the title beating Schunk and Minella on the way. Emily was a big 5/1 underdog at Bet365 here as well.
It's not quite her highest win by ranking though, that was Quinn Gleeson (337) on the grass in 2019 in Manchester quals, but she was far less of a betting underdog then, higher ranked (than she is now), a surface advantage, and presumably more potential back then.
Good chance in Q2 for Emily aswell, playing an Italian in the 600s who's been losing in the early rounds at 15ks lately (though probably more of a clay court expert than Em).
Watching a bit of the match, you do feel Emily is a bit defensive on return games, when the power of serve at this level doesn't really demand it. But a great win!
L16:- Elsa Jacquemot (FRA) / Natalija Stevanovic (SRB) CR673 (442+231) v Emily Appleton (GBR) / Ali Collins (GBR) CR613 (280+333)
Yes strangely although Nottm 25 singles is weak the dubs there is stronger than in this 60 in Switzerland. EWS/Kung would not have been seeded in the 25.
