2022 British Player of the Month/Season Overview Thread

So as promised, Ive done a deal with Indy and bought back the rights to the franchise.
This is an overview thread where Ill summarise the PoM winners and PoS qualifiers in due course.

As per last year,  we will have PoM polls for Jan to Oct and then a joint one for Nov / Dec in mid Dec.
PoS will take it place a week or so before Xmas like this year.

5 small changes to make my life easier:

1) I will post a separate nominations thread for each month eg one for January, as that will allow us all to keep track and also search back more readily

2) i want folks to help by updating the nominations list themselves as we go, or if someone is unable to do that but makes a nomination, Id like anyone else around to update the ongoing list. The list will be in the respective monthly thread and I simply ask folks to cut and paste the existing list and add their nomination at the bottom with any comments

3) All PoM votes will be a single poll, winner takes all, no thresholds or finals; unless we have more than 20 nominations in a month as Ill need to create separate polls and in that case we will have a semi and final. In the player of season polls we will have rounds though depending on how many players qualify

4) for PoS I will simplify it. The tournie winners and similar means of qualifying distilled the quality. So this year it will be the PoM winner and RU each month; the respective mens/womens singles number ones and doubles number ones if not qualified, and the junior boys/girls and wheelchair mens , womens and quads #1's ; and a wild card vote to round out numbers. No top tournie winners and most nominations. They can qualify through POM results or wildcard as appropriate.

 5) finally, I dont plan to create the little bios i do for each player before the poll- I reckon folks can do their own research and decide how they want to vote without my help! But others are welcome to fill in the gaps!

January nominations thread will go up this evening .

As an aside, of the multiple winners, 4 of the 6 are women.

Of all of our winners or tied winners since we started in Jan 2020, 16 have been women and 8 men.

Just throwing it out there, is there an unconscious bias creeping in, would we expect there to be a significant proportion of the winners being women versus men?

Just wondering if we think it is what we would expect, does it reflect the board probably being one which favours the women players to follow and thus this plays out in our winners?

It is what it is, but I thought it interesting !!

Hmm, without going back through them all I would have thought the at least vast majority of winners have been far from unexpected.

Some voters may have an element of subconscious bias ( you have said that you yourself may have towards the guys ) but I really do think we come out with very worthy winners and I personally don't see any particular bias effect.

And, listen, it really is what it is. more than any bias it maybe reflects that the women seem to have more having unexpected highs and breakthroughs - Fran, Emma, Hannah , Sonay- whereas perhaps the men are doing more consistently strongly and not smashing expectations at the time? On the basis we have more higher end ranked men, top 100, 200 and doubles as well, plus a stronger wheelchair cohort. Perhaps the women are better at breaking out of the pack and smashing it for a few months ?

Just some stats.

2020 we averaged just under 25 votes per PoM vote.
2021 that increased to a tad under 30, so a 20 percent improvement
2022 - for first two months of year, weve averaged 36 so far. Obviously its only 2 months but that is another 20 percent up and overall we are 44% up from 2020 in terms of votes cast.

Which is great to see and I hope we can keep that up. It makes the results more solid and it makes the votes more interesting.
