Nice to see a name like Lauren Bishop back on a draw again.
One of the new names not on the list is Freya Davies who, I see, is a student at Bath uni.
You can't help wondering if she was probably just walking past the office, stuck her head in for a chat, asked how it was going, heard no one had turned up, and went, well, why not ....(No disrespect, Freya )
Regarding the juniors (which some people like to separate out, for future interest), there is obviously the 'big tiddlers' match between Amelie Brookes (2006) and the daughter of Zimbabwean, Wayne Black, Brooke Black (2007), as mentioned at length elsewhere. Both are outside the top 1000 in juniors.
Paulina Jurkowska (2005) has been having some decent results recently and is a name I've been watching.
(Hannah Smith (2004) is also there and Jessica Matthews (2004) and Fran Davis)
Well, the players can only play their tennis. The fact that they're in a 25k doesn't mean they magically have a 25 standard.
That said, I think GB have done very well to get Brooke Black.
A very interesting prospect. Only 2007 born. Tall, with long levers. Very technically sound (although doesn't like going forward). Quite dynamci and well-balanced, as in nice and deep into the knee-bend when she hits. OK-ish serve. Amelie Brooks (2006) played pretty well too. It was a good junior match. Brook won, and deservedly so, though.
(The Fran Davis v Regina Rustic match, on the other hand, is not great, a far more 'average' junior match).
