just looking ahead to the ITF events post Wimbledon. The first ones are a mens grass court in Roehampton and womens OH surface one at the NTC

The question I had was - as the venues are notated differently, where is the mens event being played? Is it also the NTC (why is it not written like the womens?) and do they have grass there? Or are they using the Wimbledon qualifying courts being played on this week in Roehampton?

ITF WORLD TENNIS TOUR
ITF $25k - Roehampton (G)
ITF WORLD TENNIS TOUR
ITF $25k - NTC (OH)

I think some of the grass courts used in qualifying are part of the NTC but the sites sort of merge for qualifying on this part. However as the AELTC currently has a 15 year lease on the Bank of England sports ground I reckon it will be on those courts. As posted in the Mens qualifying event thread. You could notice bits and pieces that the site is now AELTC owned.

I wonder if next year the grass ITFs will be both Mens and Womens but they decided to do just one this year to see how the courts hold up after being used for qualifying , Juniors and then ITfs.

thanks Madadman - the mens grass events continue beyond this week and there are two more weeks , both in Nottingham, later in July. The women have events the same weeks, but again they are on hardcourt (one in Nottingham, one at a place called Foxhills, wherever that is?)

Tickets are now available for the Budgens Motors W100 Shrewsbury in November.

https://worldtennistourshrewsbury.com/tickets-and-events/

schedule

As usual for Shrewsbury, its not just about the tennis. They have a number of evening events including the player party (where the draw will be done), an evening with Laura Robson (who is the assistant tournament director), live music, family fan-zone day, including a chance to hit with Laura and an event for careers in sports that focuses on alternatives to playing or coaching.

They'll also be promoting the event in the month before by having a Tennis Ball Trail around the town from 19 September to the start of the tournament. Find the code on the 12 caricature 4ft tennis balls dotted around the town and be in with a chance to win tickets to the VIP lunch on finals day and to Queens next year.

It also looks like there are plans to hold a W100 in Shrewsbury next year as well.

Thats a big looking event, good luck to them, should get a decent field.

Lambda, is there an updated version of the British tournament calendar taking us through the end of the year now? Last one I think you posted for us was through august ? Thanks

Just looking at the respective ITF schedules for British events, the ITF calendar now has the following up:

Men -

w.c. 3rd October - M25 Sheffield

w.c. 10th October - M25 Sunderland

w.c. 17th October - M25 Glasgow

Womens -

w.c. 17th October - W60 Glasgow

w.c. 24th October - Loughborough

w.c. 31st October - W100 Shrewsbury

Through the rest of the season, the two tours have been largely aligned in terms of dates, venues and levels but for these all 3 aspects have become misaligned really. Not sure that matters particularly, maybe it is hard to find indoor venues able to cope with two sets of fields entering, but interesting that the womens events are for bigger money and points, from a strategy perspective. If the idea is to feed British players playing opportunities for world ranking points, will the W100/60 level events play to that agenda ie will the field be full of non Brits?

Hopefully our women ranked 100 to 300 will play the 60 and 100.

I think the higher level tournaments on the women's side is that the cost benefit of holding a 25K is weighted more towards cost because of the restriction on the number of WCs that women can use. With the restriction you end up running out of women with available WCs that are part of the strategy to help increase their ranking unless you've got a very big pool to choose from in the first place. The MD WCs in the women's summer series have largely gone to those at college and some returning from injury and illness. Without them those WCs would probably have gone to juniors that wouldnt get any benefit and there is little return for the expense of running the event. Putting on higher level tournaments will open up WCs to women that don't need them at 25K level.

The men don't have the same restrictions and there are more men to choose from so perhaps the LTA feels they can still get value from 25Ks.

Also, bear in mind the situation around Russian players. Not sure if the ban is still in place but the ATP/WTA are unlikely to agree to a new tournament if it can't guarantee that no nationalities will be banned which perhaps prevents new mens events higher than 25K?

its true that the level above for the men would require it to become an ATP Challenger and apply for a license at that level, which is unlikely to happen given the restrictions in place, so the M25 makes sense for that reason and the others you mention.

Don't get me wrong the ITF100 at Shrewsbury looks a big event, and professionally presented as well, so should be v interesting, if we can get some of the Jodies, Heathers etc of the womens game there, it may well be a big success

Isn't the M25 a circle? What does above and below mean in that context?
