2022 BJK Cup Qualifiers - Czech Republic vs GB - 15-16 April

To be fair, Katie S could be thinking of her points dropping off, and the amount she is playing to make up for them - how often in recent years has she played 3 weeks in a row as she is planning to at present? She may just be conserving the body.

There's not much alternative playing options the week of BJK.

The 100k is in Shrewsbury the week before, but the week of the event there is a $60k in Canada which comes at the end of a North American indoor swing of events none of our girls are entered into, or 25ks in Israel, Sharm and Japan.

Could well be players drop out yet of course but the Czechs look pretty strong to me.

3 top 10 and 6 top 20 players. 2 of the top 10 and 4 of the top 20 are USA players.

USA and Czech Rep are in same group as well. With Poland. 2 best teams in same group. Crazy

Switzerland are top seeds as 2021 runners-up (in the absence of Russia) with Australia second, Spain #3 and Czech #4. USA were lower (between #5 and #8) so there was always going to be a tough group wherever USA were drawn.

Emma out. No surprise. Not sure it really impacts our chances, although it makes the tie against Spain harder - Harriet won't beat Badosa but she had a realistic prospect of winning at #2 and taking it to doubles.

That's a shame given she seems to have been working hard on her fitness with Jez Green the past few weeks. Presumably Jodie and Sonay to come in then (if Katie Swan isn't fit either).

I would much prefer Lily (especially with her recent win on the courts) to Jodie any day!

The same applies to the tie against Kazakhstan. Rybakina/Putintseva is arguably as strong as Badosa/Parrizas-Dias.

Hate to be a killjoy , but weve no chance of getting out of this group or , to be frank, winning against either nation. Great experience and all that but we will be hammered.

Sorry if that isnt the right thing to say!

A battered Mars bar at each change of ends instead of the usual banana, will see us over the line, ye of little faith.

If its one of the Mars Bars they sell in Romania, may well help!
