Week 44 - ITF W25 - Haabneeme, Estonia Hard

Jodie missed 40-0* in the first game of the decider and went 2-4* down.

Has just broken back.

Well done Katie!!!

 Katie B. presumably ?

Actually it was in reply to post that said Katie S had won by retirement...but I can't find the result anywhere....

Edit - it's not showing on my phone, but is on PC - she did win as reported.

Scores on my phone seem to be playing up a bit currently!

The live scores from this tournament vanished for a short while around that time whilst they updated the draw - so that was probaly why it wasn't showing

My post was a bit tongue in cheek referring to the idea that we can say well done to anyone who is 2-3 down who then wins by retirement, that was all!

2 out of 3 ain't bad I guess, but just not the 2 many would have thought. I guess it is Jodie's first event back for a few months. Hopefully we get the all Katie SF.

Jodie had the comeback on the cards at 5-5 30-0*. Such a shame. Don't know much about the junior she lost to but it is her first event since New York which feels a lifetime ago!

I thought it might be and I did think twice about my post, but it was a win, so well done!

To be honest I assumed it was Katie who had retired so a bit surprised and relieved to discover it was Kanepi.

If Jodie had got through she would have next played another high ranked junior, but one that she has played twice before. Jodie lost in 3 in 2019 but won easily in 2 in 2020. So those few points missed today may well have cost her a place in the SF.

I'd been assuming that our 3 players here came with a full medical support team !

The Kanepi vs. Swan match is on Youtube. The live scoring got the players mixed up at the start, and abandoned the scoring after the first game. Kanepi served first, and there were no breaks of serve in the 5 games played. Kanepi did not seem to have an obvious injury when she retired.

Katie's now playing a tie breaker in a set which has gone on for over an hour. She had a break early on but seems to be finding it difficult to get over the line. I wish there was a stream to watch.
