Emily is pairing up with Naiktha. They are second seeds but suspect their Romanian opponents will be favourites.

Naiktha plays a Swiss wildcard.

I guess there's levels to this game, a huge ranking difference, and Sashi was an average 13/2 or 7.50 to win, but that (emphatically) ends a 14 match losing streak for the Japanese player, who now plays Joanna Garland in Q2. She's probably pleased that she was the Q1 seed to try and get something going again.

Em loses 6-3 6-2. More of a battle than I'd maybe expected, second set was actually closer than the first (Emily was broken from game point up twice, every game bar one went at least to 30).

Doubles later. Naiktha's singles tomorrow.

For the quasi-Brits, Joanna Garland came back from 1-6 down to win the MTB, taking out the top q seed

Em/Naiktha took the first set 6-3. Broken at the start of the second after a long toilet break.

0-1*

A bad break from 40-15 up at *1-1, double fault on deuce, was well recovered and the girls went up *4-2. But the Romanians have just held for the first time this set to 40 to level up.

*4-4

Hold from 15-30, and then it's 4 match points at 5-4*...

One gone. Two gone. Phew!

Em and Naiktha take a good 6-3 6-4 win. That was a difficult match, and importantly ends a long stretch for Em going back to Nottingham.
